Which Came First: the Chicken or the Egg?

Or in this case, which came first: the Inked Canvas or the designs?

Hah! Let me let you in on a little secret. I have a bad habit of descending into rabbit holes with no bottom in sight. Pair that with my fierce love for vintage books, vintage art and vintage people, and we have all the makings for a library of content! Vintage simply means old, but it sure sounds a lot more appealing.

So, the answer is, of course, that the designs came first!

I now had the beginning of a library of content. What next? Diving back into the rabbit hole, I researched my options of how I could transform historic, sometimes poor-quality images into something that could be displayed. Flash forward one year and we had developed our exclusive wall tarp design using super heavy cotton duck fabric as our substrate on which to print our images.

Sure, I left out some key details of the development process, but there needs to be a little bit of mystery, right?

Simplicity of design was foremost in my mind when we were developing the Inked Canvas line. I love natural colors, textures, and my intention was to offer my customers pieces that wouldn’t fight with their existing color schemes. I also wanted to provide ready-to-hang items that didn’t require the added time and expense of matting and framing. Besides, most homes are already filled with framed wall art. The Inked Canvas Wall Tarps add a textured soft touch to any room.

Fastening the grommets at the top of each panel allows for different options for hanging. I include reproduction vintage nails that you can use. But you can get creative and hang them on decorative wall hooks or tie jute through the grommets and hang them from a branch fastened to your wall. There are no limitations! I’ll be sharing more hanging options with you. And please feel free to send me images showing me how you have hung your Inked Canvas! With your permission, I’d love to share your images on social media and on my website to help inspire others.

At Heart in Hand Mercantile, our goal is to create unique items to share with those who share our love of vintage images. There are so many subjects and categories available for us to work with and we will continue to add categories as we grow. We started with my favorites because, well, it’s my business and I can do what I like. But I hope you like them as well.  Check back often to see our new creations!
